Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
On March 16th, I was hit by a car. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance with my leg bent at an unnatural angle and in excruciating pain. After several hours in the Emergency department, I was diagnosed with compound tibia and fibula fractures. While waiting for surgery, I was given hydromorphone as well as several other medications for the pain. I had emergency surgery within 12 hours of being hit, where the surgeon placed two plates and multiple screws in my leg. I was released from the hospital, and my mother drove me back home to Toronto. I was told I am not able to put weight on my leg for eight weeks.
My first week home in Toronto was difficult as I was on pain medication but still unable to sleep, and I suffered from bad nightmares. I am now better able to focus but am still in bed, with my leg elevated at all times to reduce the pain. It is still very painful to move, and I am uncomfortable most of the time.
When I was discharged, I was told I would return for my follow-up appointment in 14 days. However, my appointment to remove my cast, evaluate my recovery and remove my sutures/staples was delayed until next Wednesday, April, 10th 2024.
Additionally, I find myself extremely tired after attempting to complete basic tasks and short periods of work. That being said, I have been in touch with my professors and have been trying to complete as much work as possible online.
I have completed most of my coursework and am writing in the hopes of qualifying for an aegrotat grade in my courses, excusing myself from my final exams and papers.
