Academic Plan
The following plan outlines the steps I will take to ensure academic success, broken into sections including Course of study, time allocation, strategies for success, and resources to aid my transition back to schooling.
1) Challenges previously faced and their respective solutions.
a. Prevalence of an anxiety disorder
Strategies for success and resources:
My current medication/supplement plan has proven to yield beneficial results which will persist through my future academic career if I remain consistent. I also plan on implementing counseling services into my life, this would provide a fallback net to resort to if any mental struggles begin to affect my academic performance.
The medical end of this plan including physical health and medication strategies will be handled by a personal physician, while counseling services could be obtained at Student Wellness Services or other off-campus practices.
b. Difficulty with comprehension and retention of course material
Strategies for success and resources:
Because of setbacks resulting from my extenuating circumstances, I intend to solidify my foundational knowledge of calculus to aid my transition back to economics.
This can be achieved by requesting a tutor through ASUS peer tutoring or seeking help from an off-campus service.
c. Difficulty forming healthy work habits
Strategies for success and resources:
Upon my return to studies, I intend to consult a learning strategist or mentor. I believe that these services will ensure a smooth transition into my studies in the Fall 2024 semester and provide essential tips that will allow me to thrive academically.
Student Academic Success and the Peer Mentor Program both provide necessary services to ensure the formation of healthy work habits. Additionally, joining study groups and academic clubs would provide a community of like-minded people eager to succeed.
2) Course of study and time allocation
Minor in Economics: Although this plan is subject to change, I currently intend on completing Economics as a minor, engaging in necessary economics courses while exploring other degree options.
Exploration of Major Options: Alongside completing my Economics minor, I will utilize this time to explore other potential major options. By selecting diverse electives, I aim to broaden my academic horizons and make an informed decision regarding my major.
Declaration of Major: Upon meeting the requirements for major selection, I plan to declare my chosen major and work towards completing it within three years of my return to school.
Elective Courses and Retakes: During the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 semesters, I will enroll in elective courses that align with both my minor in Economics and potential major interests. Additionally, many courses will be re-taken, including but not limited to; ECON 212, ECON 222, ECON 250, and MATH126. Re-taking these courses will intensely impact my GPA and contribute heavily to the graduation requirements of an economics minor.
Full-Time Studies and Medication Plan: Recognizing that I have completed only 36 credits thus far, I am committed to attending full-time studies with a heavy course load. I am confident in my ability to manage this workload effectively, especially with the support of my current medication plan, which has successfully alleviated symptoms of anxiety and ADHD.
