Dear Academic Associate Dean,
I am writing this letter as an academic petition to change my grade in BIOL 206 from a D- to a CR and in MICR 270 from a C- to a CR.
An extenuating circumstance beyond my control that arose in March of 2023 continued to worsen due to events occurring towards the end of Fall 2023 and the beginning of Winter 2024, making it very difficult for me to continue and keep up.
Knowing that I am an individual who pushes myself and strives for success, it was disappointing to see the effects of this circumstance on my life, specifically my academic life. It became a challenge for me to get out of bed and start my day, such as leaving my room and attending class. Due to the previous struggles that I have experienced which resulted in me having to drop a full-year course last year at the last minute, this incident has made it harder to manage tasks. Changing these courses to CR would still allow me to excel while also receiving the credit. I have always struggled with my mental health, making the circumstances add a lot more stress on me throughout the term.
I have spoken to an Academic Advisor, my parents, and have been getting support from the SVPR office as well. I am also seeking professional help to get back on track and excel in the upcoming terms and will be continuing counselling throughout the year in order to get the right support I need. I am committed to properly managing my coursework next year and plan on continuing to seek support from my academic advisor and the SVPR office, as well as work with SASS. These steps and actions will help me improve my future and ensure that I get the right support needed while doing what is best for myself.
Regards,
