Academic Plan
Academic Plan ¿¿ Rhys Eylott
Course Description:
Bachelor of Computing (General). COMP-G-BCP.
My main focus is on a series of CISC courses, for example Software Specifications (CISC 223) and Computer Architecture (CISC 221).
Course to be taken in academic year 2015-16 are CISC 365, CISC 324, CISC 223, CISC 221 and STAT 263.
Problem:
My downfall in previous academic years was my failure to study, revise and consolidate on a continuous basis throughout the year. I procrastinated and left an unrealistic amount of catch-up work to the end of the semester.
Solution:
¿¿ Commit throughout the year to 2.5 hours of personal study time for every hour spent in class. This will provide an ever increasing platform of knowledge.
¿¿ I will revisit this Academic Plan with my Tutor on a regular basis to ensure adherence.
Problem:
I failed to communicate or seek assistance when confronted by a problem or if I didn¿¿t understand a topic.
Solution:
¿¿ Contact a Learning Strategies Counselor to establish a relationship and create a strategy to manage my academics.
¿¿ Arrange to meet a Personal Counselor in order to stay motivated.
¿¿ Consult my professors immediately whenever a topic is unclear.
¿¿ I have already contacted Irene LaFleche and will continue to seek her guidance.
¿¿ I will continue to involve myself in Study Groups.
¿¿ I will continue to work closely with my Tutor.
Problem:
I failed to share my challenges with my parents on a timely basis.
Solution:
¿¿ The Appeal process has already highlighted the need to reach out for parental support and guidance.
¿¿ I will proactively and immediately involve my family in any future challenges.
Problem:
I need to ensure that I do not attempt to take on an excessive workload.
Solution:
¿¿ Instead of waiting until the next academic year, I am using this summer to retake MATH 121 (already commenced).
¿¿ I will retake the other course which I failed (CISC 221) in 2015.
¿¿ I will take a couple of lighter workload courses to bring me to (and not over) 30.0 course units.
Problem:
I was not organized leading up to exams.
Solution:
¿¿ Follow this Academic Plan to better prepare me throughout the year.
¿¿ I will attend the relevant on campus workshops with the Learning Strategies Development program specifically designed around exam preparation.
