Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Stephenson,
As a major in Fine Art, I took a mandatory Art History course at the 200 level in fall, 2023 which was the ARTH 253 Baroque Art course. However, I missed the first few lectures as I was too busy working through private issues regarding moving and living outside of residence. Thus, I decided to drop the course and instead take a different art history course in my third year to fullfil the level 200 course requirement. While I don't remember the specific date, I dropped the course around the end of September, a few weeks into the fall semester. It said it was successful and SOLUS removed it from my schedule so I assumed I had dropped it successfully and did not think anything more of it. However, while working through course selection this year, I noticed that it is still on my transcript, listed as a D+. This course is now weighing down my average in my major in Fine Art which is currently a 2.633. I am also in the Concurrent Education program and I am really stressed about this as I have done well in all of my other university courses because I need a GPA of 2.7 or higher for it to be a valid teachable. I have contacted student services twice recently, and they have told me that for them, it says I did not drop the course. I am really confused and frustrated about why the course drop is not showing up on their side and why this course is still on my transcript. I really want to drop it as it is weighing down my GPA that I need to be higher for my teaching degree.
Kind Regards,
Olivia Chang
