Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Barbara Crow,
I hope this message finds out well. My name is Alexis, and I am currently entering my second year in Life Sciences. I am writing to petition for the removal of Math 130 (fall 2023), from my transcript.
Throughout my first year, I faced significant challenges related to both my mental and physical health. Shortly after the start of the academic year, at the end of September, I began to experience severe homesickness and an exacerbation of my pre-existing depression and anxiety. While I have previously managed these conditions independently, their impact intensified to a point where it became increasingly difficult to maintain my academic performance.
In addition to these mental health struggles, I suffered from a physical illness called Candida, which further compounded my difficulties and led to substantial academic setbacks. This was in November/December. Unfortunately, my ability to address these issues in a timely manner was hindered by my unawareness of the severity of my mental health decline. It wasn’t until returning home and receiving support from my family and friends that I recognized the extent of my struggles.
Since starting medication on May 29, I have observed considerable improvement in my overall well-being. I am currently enrolled in two online courses, where I am performing well and feeling more confident in my academic abilities. I am also learning to manage my stress more effectively and have decided to take a lighter course load as I continue to navigate my personal and academic goals. I am also looking into counseling. As well as, try to get accommodations as stress anxiety became very apparent to me throughout this year.
Due to my mental and physical health challenges, my performance in Math 130 was severely impacted. Although I initially hoped to recover and improve my marks, it became clear that I needed more support and adjustments to my approach. I am committed to making positive changes and ensuring that my academic performance reflects my true capabilities moving forward.
I kindly request that you consider my petition to remove Math 130 from my transcript. Your understanding and support in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Alexis
