Dear Admissions Committee,
I am writing to express my enthusiasm for studying abroad at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona during the Winter 2025 semester. As a third-year Life Sciences student, I am eager to immerse my academic pursuits with new experiences and various cultures. Studying and living in Barcelona represents a unique opportunity to broaden my academic and personal horizons, and I am confident that this experience will offer me invaluable insights into my field and its global context.
My parents were born and raised in China, but as teenagers, they left home in search of better educational opportunities. After meeting each other in Canada, they embarked on a journey of global exploration, making new friends and creating lasting memories along the way. Their journeys ignited my passion for discovering new perspectives, and I believe that immersing myself in Barcelona's rich cultural and historical environment will provide me with a profound understanding of different approaches to life and education. My goal to combine traditional studies with real-world experiences aligns perfectly with the opportunities that studying abroad presents.
After extensive research, I am convinced that the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona offers the ideal environment for achieving my academic goals. The university's central location in Barcelona, combined with its diverse range of unique courses, aligns perfectly with my interests. I am particularly excited about courses such as Urban Intervention, Graffiti and Public Sculpture, Intercultural Communications, Spanish Contemporary Art, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Communication, and Mediterranean Politics. These subjects not only seem intriguing but also represent fields I cannot currently explore at Queen’s University.
Additionally, pursuing my own dental practice has long been a goal of mine, and I see Barcelona, with its reputation as a vibrant business and learning hub, as the ideal place to gain the knowledge I need. I aim to apply the concepts from the ‘Entrepreneurship and New Venture Communication’ course to eventually establish and grow my own dental practice. The rich architectural and artistic heritage of Barcelona adds an additional layer of excitement to courses like Urban Intervention and Graffiti and Public Sculpture, which include field trips that offer experiential learning opportunities available elsewhere.
My long-term academic goal is to attend dental school. I believe that the unique courses and experiences offered by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will greatly enhance my dental school application and set me apart from other candidates. For instance, Canadian dental schools often require elective courses outside of the science faculty, and the electives I plan to take at this institution will not only fulfill this requirement but show the institution I have well-rounded interests.
I am fully aware of the logistics involved in studying abroad, including course selection, enrollment, accommodations, visas, and finances. My previous experience traveling and volunteering in Lima, Peru, where I adapted to new cultural situations, navigated language barriers, and managed various logistical challenges, has prepared me well for this endeavor. I am confident in my ability to organize my schedule, prioritize coursework, and make the most of both educational and cultural opportunities.
In conclusion, I believe that my academic goals and personal aspirations align well with what Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has to offer. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of taking five elective courses there in Winter 2025 and am eager to contribute to and benefit from this enriching experience.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Bella Sun
