As I am on track to graduate after four years at Queen’s University, I understand I must complete 120 units worth of courses to achieve graduation. When looking at my Political Studies Major, I recognize that out of the 120 units, 60.0 must come from classes within the Department of Political Studies. After examining my records, I have completed the 6.0 units mandatory in my first year at Queen’s. In my second year, I met the requirement of 18.0 units at the 200 level, where I also took the first portion of Political Theory courses, receiving 3.0 units out of 6.0 needed through Pols 250 in the fall semester, followed by the completion of the first 3.0 units out of 6.0 required in statistics through Pols 285. I will complete the remaining 3.0 units by the end of this current fall semester through Pols 284. I understand that my quest to study abroad in the winter semester will not allow me to take the other portion of theory, Pols 350; I can ensure I will take this remaining credit in the fall semester of my fourth year at Queens, considering I will only need 12.0 units of Pols courses at the 400 level.
I recognize that I sit at 45 out of 60 units needed for Political Studies, and considering London Metropolitan’s statement that I must take “four modules per semester, which is the equivalent of 30 ECTS or 12 Canadian credits. If you are only staying for a semester, you will need to check that the possibility exists to take four single-semester modules.” If my ILOP is to be accepted, I will be on track to complete the required Political Studies units. After completing the fall semester at Queens, I will have 6.0 units of 300-level Pols option courses, leaving me only needing 6.0 units to complete my 300-level politics credits. At London Metropolitan University, through in-depth research of the year three classes offered within the Political Studies department, I plan on taking The Modern State: Progress, Protests and Power, Political Marketing in a Digital World, Global Populism and the Crisis of Democracy and finally, Gender and Political Participation. With an approved ILOP, this will mean that these courses would slot perfectly into my required core POLS courses, leaving me with my fourth year at Queens to focus on and complete the 12.0 units needed at the 400 level. If my ILOP is approved, I remain on excellent track to graduate with the required 120.0 total units upon completing my fourth year at Queens.
While I feel my plan is well structured, minor issues can always arise, considering the nature of completing credits abroad for my declared Major. However, if a problem arises, I understand that these courses may still count as electives, which ultimately count towards the 120.0 units needed for graduation. I have taken heavier course loads before, such as six courses a semester along with summer courses in previous years, and I am fully willing to take on a similar load again to ensure I can complete my studies and requirements by the expected date of graduation. From my records, the courses I have already completed, the expected courses to be taken abroad during the 2025 winter semester and the future courses I will take at Queens, I believe I am in good shape to achieve my academic goals and graduate on time following my completion of the fourth year at Queens.
