Petition Letter
Greetings,
I am requesting that my first year grade for CISC 101 be removed from my record. Over the 2024 winter semester, I had undergone many circumstances which heavily impacted my grade as well as the time I had to contribute to this course. My grandfather, and father figure, who I had lived with growing up was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We were told that he would only have a few months to live, so I spent significant time travelling back and forth between Smiths Falls and Kingston to help take care of him. During this time, family tension was high as my grandfather degraded into an unrecognizable state. I developed situational depression from the experience and for this reason, I had become so distracted that I unfortunately missed crucial quizzes for my final grade. Not only was my grandfather my father figure, but he was also the only financial support I had going into university, and he had given me my queens jacket as a final gift before passing away earlier this year. I’ve had to spend much time figuring out how I am going to afford living as well as school, which I’ve been able to do between OSAP and working full-time with the city of Kingston over the summer. I’ve also been able to make connections to support my future by working at the St. John’s The Evangelist Anglican Church of Smiths Falls. To deal with my ADHD and diagnosed anxiety, I sought the help of my doctor and we have discovered the Biphentin medication helps greatly with my panic attacks and attention deficits. This can be seen in my grades, starting with ENGL 100 in the summer, and I’ve continued to improve significantly throughout the second year. I’ve discovered a love for literature at Queen’s, one that I’ve shared with my church back home and with those around me. It has helped me to overcome many challenges in my recent life, and I intend on improving even more in the coming years so that I may be able to attend teachers college through Queen’s. I would hate to see this unfortunate set of circumstances hinder my life going forward, as I believe it is not an accurate representation of my true ability. Thank you for your consideration.
