Petition Letter
Hi Officer,
This is Jiahui Zhu (Josephine), student number 20223936. I have an approval from LOP this summer for taking my three other courses at Athabasca University. Two of them (COMP210 and CLST 201) were open to learning before August, and HRMT208 was the last course that opened in August. I got good grades from the first two courses but failed on the last HRMT208 course. I would like to explain the reason and circumstance that cause the low mark of this course because I already spend money on this course and I do not want to waste that much of money since here is some circumstance. I had some bad nightmares and sleep paralysis during the end of July. Everyday I try to sleep, but almost every time I end up with paralysis, and that caused me a poor mental state and a loss of appetite in the beginning. After a few days, I broke up with my ex-bf since I disappointingly found that he has cheated on me several times when I think that was the best time of my life. This has doubted both myself and how I see people. Those two things that came up together have had a big affect on my physical and psychological health. My parents and friends took me out for fun, and I did not enjoy or feel happy. They also took me to the chaplain and psychiatric clinic to solve the problems. I appreciate what my parents and friends have done to make me happy, but in that period of time, I just don't feel anything. I felt sad or angry all the time and I do not like to talk or meet people, even its to talking eith my parents. I felt so unsure and not confident of myself when I go out, so I stay at home mainly. I eat less because I don't even feel hungry every day. I lost 8 kg that time, but now I am way better than that. I went through all that kind of negativity and have a course studying in August. I tried my best to complete every assignment that they handed and read the book that they sent me, but I did not get that much of a high grade. I asked two of my classmates, and they just passed the passing line of 40. This has shocked me because I never knew that these could affect my academic goals, and these psychological changes have affected me a lot, not even my study. After I received my grade for the final course, I felt so guilty that I did not sleep well or meet a person well and ended up having to pay the tuition and wasted the time. I was the problem, but my parents are still paying it for me. I realized that there must be something that our school can help with, so I contacted the Athabasca University and Queen's University to see if there is any help. I am petitioning our university to give me another chance to apply for an lop or ilop for this class or another course because my academic plan was planned well before this year and I wish there was no problem with it. I appreciate all the officers and staff from this faculty who have helped me, consider my request and understand my situation in this case.
Thank you again.
Josephine
