Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I'm writing to submit a petition for a special consideration in my IDIS 373 course that I completed in the fall semester 2024. I had a blog assignment worth 35% of my grade, due on the 12th of December. I submitted it early on the 10th because I was leaving for vacation to attend a family memorial in China. Since I had already completed my last exam on the 7th of December I was fortunate to leave for China early into the exam season.
The assignment submission required a post on a blog website then a text file of the entire assignment with a url to the blog post at the top of the document. I submitted both the finished blog and the complete word copy early on December 9th except for the url which I forgot. In this course we have completed many blog posts on a single website, so my TA already had easy access to this blog through the previous assignments. I also have taken a similar course called IDIS 173 where we also submit blog posts to the same website and have the same professor where I also completed every single assignment well and on time.
Since I was in China I was unable to access OnQ or outlook emails and did not get an announcement posted on Dec 12 making sure that everyone posted the url in the word document. I also could not see the email from my TA explaining on Dec 24 about the url as I was still in China.
I regained access to my email once leaving China on Jan 4 and saw the email from my TA. Since I knew marks were due very soon since they show up on SOLUS on the 11th, I emailed both my professor and the course email on Jan 4. However, the professor and the course email remained unmonitored until Jan 6. My email was not responded to until Wednesday Jan 8 at 2am in my time zone where the professor responded that there was nothing they could do since marks were already submitted.
I don't think it’s fair I receive a zero for this assignment worth such a large part of my mark, as I have worked very hard in this class and the TA had easy access to not only my finished blog post but also the full word document with all of the same information. I understand receiving a deduction for a missing URL however this assignment brings me down from an A+ to a C- because of a minor mistake on a completed assignment. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this? I always try my hardest to be an outstanding student and I am currently aiming to go to medical school and don’t want my chances stripped away over a missing URL for a completed assignment.
I have attached the submission confirmation, confirmation the blog post has not been altered past the 10th of December, and the email to the professor and course email.
Thank you,
Maxx Choi
