Academic Plan
As of right now I do not have a declared major through Queen's as I missed the deadline and did not have the grades to do so in my first year, however I am dedicated to getting back on track in majoring in English and minoring in history. I am familiar with the plan requirements and plan on meeting with an academic advisor this semester to discuss my circumstances in more detail so I know the best possible course of action going forwads. I do have incomplete work to finish up from previus academic sessions as I will essentially be starting my degree over, I am planning on beginning that journey with a part-time semester during winter 2025 to prepare myself for a successful full time semester in fall 2025. I will not have to work during this semester and will dedicate all my time to my classes, assignments, utilising academic supports such as PASS and ASUS tutoring when needed, and making regular mental health appoinments. The main challenges I have encountered in the past were severe mental health struggles which lead to isolation and avoidance behaviours instead of real coping mechanisms. I have developped interpersonal skills needed to tackle these issues and would like to further develop my ability of using these skills while balancing academic requiremenets. I will utlise mental health counseling services in and out of the school as well as peer tutpring, pass services, and other academic counseling at the school to do this. I also have opened up to my family about the severity of my struggles and have their support from home if I need someone to take to who is not a professional. I did not have difficulty with understading course work or content, however my mental health made it difficult for me to follow demands such as attending lectures and tutorials, participating in class, or handing in work by deadline which lead to me not submitting work at all. I plan to take a light workload and retake the courses I failed to obtain a well-rounded education in my remaining years at Queen's. The issue was not at all related to my interest in my courses at Queen's, I was simply not in the mental state to engage with the content in a meaningful way despite wanting to and knowing I was wasting opportunities to recieve an education that alligned with my longterm interests. I am hesitant to say I found it hard to balance my time in the past regarding different academic demands because I simply entered a mental state where I did not care about anything, however I have worked extensively on scheduling and adhering to schedules on good and bad days so that commitments are met regardless. I am lucky to have financial resources that will suppirt me through my following years at Queen's and will provide me with additional mental health services outside of what Queen's offers.
