Academic Plan for Elective Credit Reduction Request
If granted a reduction in elective credit requirements, I will be able to strategically spread out my core courses over the next two years to ensure I can manage my workload effectively while maintaining my health. My primary goal is to focus on my geology courses and foundational science requirements while maintaining strong academic performance, as I plan to pursue a master's degree after completing my bachelor's.
Planned Coursework:
Summer 2025: MATH (Mathematics requirement)
Fall 2025 PHYS (Physics requirement) + 232, 107
Winter 2026: 238, 235, physics part two
Remaining Core Courses:
Four additional upper-year geology courses for four year + 249
This plan allows me to balance the rigorous demands of physics and math, which are already challenging subjects, alongside my core geology courses. Without the added burden of electives, I will be able to dedicate my full attention to achieving strong marks, which is crucial for maintaining a competitive academic standing for graduate school.
In the event that I struggle with or fail a core course, such as my previous experience with GEOL 107, I do not want the additional pressure of elective courses to drag down my performance or negatively impact my mental health. By focusing solely on the essential coursework, I will have the flexibility and mental capacity to manage setbacks while still progressing toward my degree.
This adjustment is not about avoiding work but about making my education more sustainable given my health challenges. It will allow me to optimize my academic success and work toward my long-term goal of pursuing a master's degree.
