Petition Letter
I'm requesting a postponement of the deadline for deleting coursework from my transcript. The reason for this is that I feel it is unfair that my 2021-2022 first-year grades are having such a big influence on my overall GPA. Many unanticipated events caused me to fail every class in my first year. These classes must be taken off my transcript so that I can continue my education at Queen's University.
I've put in a ton of effort over the last three years to get past the difficulties and mental health issues I had during my first year. It is unjust that the zeros on my transcript from these previous difficulties still hold me down. The committed and competent student I am now is not the same as the person I was during my first year. I was having personal issues at the time, which made it very difficult for me to concentrate on my schoolwork. Regretfully, I lacked the resources and support network I needed to successfully handle these difficulties. My academic performance consequently declined, and I failed every subject that year.
After going through that challenging time, I was forced to withdraw from Queen's University. Despite being difficult, this experience turned into a priceless time for personal development and introspection. I reevaluated my objectives throughout my absence, realized how important my education was, and created plans to succeed when I returned. I proactively addressed the problems that caused me to struggle academically by getting professional mental health help and improving my time management and study techniques.
I've shown a notable improvement in my academic performance since coming back. I've stayed dedicated to my academics, continuously earning good grades and demonstrating my aptitude for success. Although I have demonstrated resilience and personal development, my first-year setbacks still cloud my advancement. These marks are a result of uncontrollable circumstances rather than my academic ability. I think it is unfair for my previous difficulties to have a lasting impact on my academic status, especially in light of the significant progress I have achieved.
Allowing students who have shown notable progress to have past failures removed from their transcripts should be taken into consideration if the university's policies are intended to encourage students and advance equity. Students like me would have the opportunity to be assessed on their present skills rather than their prior struggles if the deadline were moved.
I humbly request that the cutoff date for these courses be reexamined. With this change, students who have had a lot of difficulties could go forward without being unjustly held back by their mistakes. I sincerely hope you would give my request some thought and acknowledge the hard work and commitment I have made to my academic career.
Thank you for your time and consideration
