Petition to remove 2 courses from transcript
I would like to petition to have 2 classes completely removed as well as the withdrawn status removed from my official transcript for HIST 285 and CLST 207 for winter 2025.
My tutor was concerned with my well-being and suggested that I consider dropping 1-2 courses to be able to better manage my anxiety and ADHD. I did not know that dropping a course was a possibility. When she told me about the ability to drop a course I discovered that the official drop date had already passed. I decided it was for the better of my health to drop HIST 285 and then CLST 207 because they were electives and not necessary for my current Major in Philosophy and Minor in Politics. I found the nature of these courses difficult due to their very heavy reading load and, therefore, thought they would be best dropped to reduce anxiety, as explained below.
I have registered accommodations at Queens for autsim, ADHD, anxiety and an eating disorder. I have had a change in medication this term and have had numerous struggles this term. I have had great difficulty with sleep, often being unable to sleep for 48 hours at a time. I have had great difficulty being able to follow along and concentrate during class and to complete readings. This lack of focus has made working on assignments extremely difficult, which resulted in even smaller assignments taking 20-30 hours, according to my tutor, who was keeping track of the time I was spending on assignments. This was not manageable with a full course load and caused extreme anxiety. This anxiety would cause me to be unable to work on assignments, delaying the completion of assignments, increasing anxiety about future assignments. I then became anxious about the course, my future, and completing my degree and I was feeling very hopeless that I would be able to work in the future after university. My difficulties really became unmanageable in February and March. With concern for my well-being, my tutor and mother recommended that I should drop 2 courses. I had great difficulty deciding to drop the 2 classes because I was so worried about how this would affect my transcript and my possibility of law school application in the future. That is why I am asking for you to consider the issues that I faced this term and please remove the 2 dropped courses completely from my official transcript.
Please see attached a letter from my doctor and a detailed letter from my academic tutor/ADHD coach.
Thank you for your consideration,
Rohan Vermeij
