Petition Letter
To Whom it May Concern,
I am writing to formally petition for a change in the grade designation for my SOCY 284 course, taught by Dr. Norma Mollers, from “GD” (Grade Deferred) to “CR” (Credit Received). I am currently on track to graduate this June, and as per university policy, I understand that students are not permitted to graduate with a deferred grade on their transcript.
Dr. Mollers has communicated that, in solidarity with striking teaching assistants, she will not be assigning any grades for this course and is only issuing deferred grades. While I respect her decision to support the TAs, I believe this situation puts students in an extremely difficult position through no fault of our own.
I want to emphasize that I have submitted all required coursework for SOCY 284 and will continue to fulfill any remaining obligations until the semester concludes. I have never failed a class during my time at university and have consistently maintained good academic standing. I’ve worked incredibly hard to ensure I graduate on time this June, and this unforeseen grading issue has caused me significant stress and uncertainty.
I respectfully request that the university intervene to allow my grade to be changed to “CR” so that I may meet the graduation requirements. I strongly believe that one professor’s refusal to submit grades should not prevent a student in good standing from graduating.
Thank you for your time and understanding, I am hoping for a favourable resolution. I am available at you convenience should you need any more information.
Sincerely,
Maya Lazenby
