Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean (Academic),
I am submitting this petition to request approval to take more than 6.0 units of courses at another institution via a Letter of Permission during Summer 2025. I plan to enroll in two courses at Qingdao University of Technology while residing in China for a summer internship. This petition is based on extenuating logistical and academic circumstances that have directly impacted my ability to complete these courses at Queen’s University.
Due to my internship placement this summer in China, I will be located in a different time zone, and this makes it significantly more difficult to balance Queen’s online course offerings with my work responsibilities. Being able to study within the same time zone will allow me to succeed both academically and professionally.
The courses I am requesting to take two of the following four: ECON 260 (Environment & Economics), ECON 380 (Mathematical Economics), GPHY 150 (Human Geography), and PSY 110 (Psychology I) to fulfill my optional economics and elective course requirements. These are not core requirements but are necessary for my degree completion. I have thoroughly reviewed the course offerings at Queen’s each term and found that the specific courses I hoped to take were either not offered during summer terms, or offered during conflicting periods in Fall/Winter when I had full course loads.
Although I have maintained good academic standing throughout my studies, this combination of internship obligation and course availability has created a unique situation. Taking these summer courses is the only way for me to fulfill the remaining requirements of my degree and graduate on time.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am prepared to provide additional documentation regarding my internship or course evaluations if needed.
Sincerely,
Ning Lu
