Petition Letter
Hello,
I am requesting for credit standing because I have found the re-weighting of the course material in response to the current PSAC strikes to be both unfair and unrepresentative of my abilities. To have an assignment originally worth 10% be made to be worth 70% is beyond outrageous. I performed poorly on the midterm, only receiving a 55%. Even worse, I received an F on my Paper 1. I found that grade to be incredibly unfair. I admit I did not do a very good job, and maybe only deserved a C, but to fail me on a paper I submitted on time and I completed the criteria (whether poorly or not) is simply beyond comprehension. Even worse, this course does not allow me to apply for a regrade, so I was stuck with a ridiculous grade. Had that been graded properly, or if I had been allowed to apply for a regrade, I may not have been left relying on my midterm to carry 70% of my grade. However, that is not the case, and now I am stuck in a position where my grades do not at all represent my abilities. I put a lot of time and effort into my second paper, and did my best to use the feedback I received on the first one, just for that to not be worth anything, as everyone is given the same grade for it. Furthermore, I put myself in a position to begin my studying for the final exam earlier and used my previous failures to work out how I could achieve a much better score. Now, with that exam cancelled, my ability to better my work and improve throughout the semester based on feedback I receive (which I believe to be the very point of taking midterms and receiving feedback on work) is completely out the window.
I hope you can understand my position in this, and how the re-weighting has completely failed students who initially struggled to understand the expectations of the TA's and the course. I truly hope you will accept this request. Thank you.
