Petition Letter
Petition Letter for LOP Approval – NATO Field School and Simulation Program
To the Academic Progress Committee,
My name is Maheen Siddiqui, and I am currently a fourth-year Political Studies student completing my undergraduate degree at Queen’s University. I am writing to respectfully request an exception to Academic Regulation 14 in order to exceed the 6.0-unit limit for courses taken on a Letter of Permission (LOP).
I have been accepted into the NATO Field School and Simulation Program, an exceptional academic opportunity that is not available at Queen’s University. This intensive program offers a unique, experiential learning environment where I will engage directly with NATO officials, policy experts, and students from around the world. The interdisciplinary and international nature of this course aligns strongly with my academic interests and career goals in international relations and security studies.
This course also represents the final 12.0 units I require to complete my degree. I am requesting permission to transfer 12.0 units from this program (6.0 units of POLS 3UNS and 6.0 units of POLS 4UNS), which will enable me to fulfill my remaining degree requirements and graduate on schedule.
I understand the importance of upholding academic regulations, but I hope the committee will consider the unique academic value of this course and my strong rationale for exceeding the LOP credit limit for this experience.
Thank you for considering my petition. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any additional information.
Sincerely,
Maheen Siddiqui
