Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Veronica Wise and I am an international first-year undergraduate enrolled in CHEM 112. I am requesting an extension of my CHEM 112B exam deferral. Due to an illness, I was unable to take the CHEM 112 exam on April 9th and was approved for a deferment. I had to vacate my dorm on April 23rd, and have returned to my home in Jacksonville, Florida. Since my exam could be any time during the deferred exam period (May 15th-18th), it will be difficult for me to return to Kingston during this time period to write the exam. Not only would this require me to take an international flight to Toronto, and then a train or bus to Kingston, but since I don’t have a specific exam date yet, I would have to make these travel arrangements last minute, which is difficult to arrange on a short notice and could be costly. I explained this situation to my course instructor, Dr. Alaina Boyd, and she advised me to apply for this petition in the hopes that I could take the online CHEM 114 exam instead. The final exam for CHEM 114 will take place during the July/August summer exam period, which is August 15th-16th, however it will be online, and therefore I will be able to take it in from my home in Florida, where I will be living until returning to campus in the fall.
