Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to petition for the issue of a CR (credit Ctanding) instead of a letter grade for the course PSYC 331 in the winter 2025 term. This course was heavily affected by the TA strike which occurred from March 10th through until after the end of the semester. The strike affected my experience in the course in three ways.
First, this course was instructed by a PhD student; thus, there was no teaching support, and very little communication, provided for nearly half of the course. Secondly, the major essay assignment for the course was tentatively postponed for several weeks before being graded; this caused me hand-in work that I felt was unsatisfactory due to the unpredictable nature of the circumstances. And finally, I planned for the final exam mark to support my overall grade in the course; however since the final exam was cancelled, I had no opportunity to receive marks for the material I studied in the second half of the course, which caused my course mark to be unusually low overall.
I believe that these three reasons lead to an outcome in the course that is exceptional for me, as evidenced by the comparatively low grade compared to my GPA.
I would therefore like to kindly request that my grade be replaced with a CR instead, given the repercussions of the circumstances outlined above.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Emma Cebuliak
