Petition Letter
This course was one I knew would be challenging from the beginning — there was a lot of content, and I made a conscious effort to dedicate more time to it because I genuinely wanted to do well. Early on, I had to miss the first exam due to being sick, and the weight was transferred to the second midterm and final. But with the TA strike that started around mid-March and lasted through to exam season, the second midterm ended up being cancelled. That meant my final exam was worth 91% of my grade.
While I technically passed, I don’t feel like the grade I received is an accurate reflection of the time, effort, or knowledge I put into this course. I’ve always struggled with testing. I have severe anxiety in exam settings, and it’s incredibly difficult to stay calm and perform well when you know everything depends on one single exam. Sitting down for a test that determines almost your entire grade is intimidating, and it makes it nearly impossible to show what you really know. In the past, I’ve had accommodations to support me through these situations, but I needed to renew my Individual Education Plan and get re-assessed. That process takes time, and unfortunately, the wait to be seen has been long
It’s not that I didn’t try or that I didn’t care, I did, and I still do. I just don’t believe the final grade represents that. I’m asking for credit standing not because I want to avoid accountability, but because I truly believe the circumstances of this term, especially the strike and how it affected assessments, prevented me from being evaluated fairly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider my appeal
