Petition Letter
I am applying for a petition of getting my PSYC100 course, coded 5838 that I failed in the 2024-2025 school year dropped from my transcript. I am a student athlete who just finished my first year of arts and science as well as my first rugby season. I experienced many challenges this year causing for this to occur. I am not a bad student as I did strongly in other courses, so this was definitely a shock to me.
I experienced difficulty with this course like many as its a heavy course. I had a very hard time moving into living alone, trying to balance my academic level change and athletic schedule, as well as I was diagnosed very late into this year with ADHD and had to start medication right before my exam, as well as I did not have the opportunity to receive accommodations. I believe this was a large impact to my difficulties with the course and ultimately my fail in PSYC.
I experienced many hardships and just general stress with blanching multiple classes and some personal issues regarding my parent and past health scares resurfacing.
Finally, the strike by far caused a massive disrupt in my studies for PSYC100. I did well in my other courses as they were interactive and connective. The strike caused my tutorials to be cancelled where I usually do a lot of learning and have opportunities for 1 on 1 questions with the instructor. The lectures were also cancelled which made room for a lot of confusion and lack of teaching style that I excel with. I am a student who needs to have connections with profs and instructors to do well and my learning style is met with tutorials and lecture. The strike made the second semester very hard to do on my own to learn and caused disruption during my examination causing me to have trouble focusing. As well as an overall additional stressor.
I have plans to retake this course next summer(2026) and I believe I can do very well if I can solely focus on this, because of the lightened schedule and I will have accommodations by then.
Thank you.
