I am writing this academic plan to support my petition for the requirement to withdraw from Queen’s University for one year. This document will provide an overview of the steps I plan to take to ensure academic success in my future at Queen’s University.
As outlined in my petition, during Term 1 and Term 2 of my first year (September 2024-May 2025) I faced difficulties in my personal life related to bereavement for my grandmother, as well as sexual assault, resulting in my GPA to drop below the minimum requirement for a student in my program.
Since these difficult circumstances, I have taken the steps to ensure a successful trajectory for my academic future. I have started using the resources Queen’s University offers its students, including: keeping in touch with an Academic Advisor (Daralyn Auld), a Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Case Manager and Student Advisor (Sarah Lavinge), as well as a counsellor from Student Wellness Center (Vanessa Mensah) who I have started to book session with again.
Academic Plan (Goals):
1. Raise my cumulative GPA to above a 1.60, with my target being 2.0.
2. I will complete 15 credits per term, though 3 credits across 5 courses each term at a minimum.
3. I will attend all lectures and tutorials
4. I will seek academic accommodation or support if the need arises, to ensure I keep myself in the best academic position possible.
Academic Plan (Strategies):
1. I will ensure successful time management by keeping track of all my assignments, deadlines, courses, notes, and progress of assignments through the Academic Planner I created on Notion which can be found here: https://picturesque-ricotta-dd1.notion.site/Mehta-s-University-Database-academic-plan-20dbdf6cd4e280f69297e154c096f644 (the planner updates in real time to demonstrate my consistent use of it).
2. I will reach out for continued academic support to Daralyn Auld and any other academic advisors available at Queen’s, and use the ASUS Peer Tutoring service if I find my courses too challenging to sustain on my own.
3. I will not hesitate to reach out to Professors and Teaching Assistants of my respective courses during their Office Hours.
4. I will continue to book counselling sessions through Student Wellness Services for mental health related struggles.
I am extremely committed to achieving my academic goals at Queen’s university with the goals and strategies outlined above. I firmly believe that the steps I have taken (SPVR, Academic Advising, return to counselling, creating, and using a comprehensive Academic Planner). If allowed to remain at Queen’s, I will make proper use of this opportunity.
