Petition Letter
To Whom it may concern,
I am writing to formally request the removal of ANAT 100 and ASTR 101 from my academic record, despite having passed the deadline to drop the courses. There are many factors that have led to the extenuating circumstances that have prompted me to submit this petition.
As a full-time employee with a newly appointed contract, I was struggling to balance my school work and job appropriately, which caused me to miss the email regarding the final date for dropping the fall course ANAT 100. It is on record that I was merely a day late in dropping the course. I am asking for that to be appealed and for the course ANAT 100 to be removed from my course list history. I understand that it was my fault for failing to complete the drop at the right time; however, the increased commitment for both found me to be quite overwhelmed mentally, and it took a toll on my work and coursework.
For the course ASTR 101, there was an extenuating factor: I was pretty ill for the semester. Emails to TAs confirm this information, as well as a doctor's note that took me off work for some time, which also hindered my academic progress. Especially since I took on six courses for the semester, as well as a full-time job, which affected my work on the course. There was also the TA strike that caused my grades to take a hit. If all the work I provided to the course had been marked, I would have had more feedback to know how to improve or boost my grade enough to pass. Unfortunately, there was a TA strike that enabled me to see the progress and know whether I should drop the course or continue and persevere. I understand the importance of the TA strike and why things had to be the way they were for the TAs, but ultimately, my grades suffered because of it. I would also like this course to be removed from my academic profile.
