I hope this message finds you well. My name is Ella Pustil, and I am a third-year student in Health Studies at Queen’s. I am requesting an exemption from the 6.0-unit limit for study abroad programs to pursue my upcoming exchange at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon.
This exchange provides a rare opportunity to broaden my studies and engage with meaningful cultural and educational experiences overseas. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to pursue courses at ISCTE that align with my major while also expanding my knowledge across interdisciplinary subjects. These courses will enrich my academic experience by offering broader perspectives on fields of study, professional practice, and global challenges. The specific courses I intend to take include:
1. Brand Expression and Identity
2. Emotions in Social and Cultural Relations
3. Major Events and Event Management
4. Europe and the World After 1945
5. Groups and Inter-Group Relations
While I fully acknowledge the rationale behind the 6.0-unit limit, I am concerned that adhering to this maximum would restrict my capacity to maximize the academic opportunities available to me during this exchange and potentially delay my degree progression at Queen’s. In carefully considering the available options, I have chosen these courses for their diversity and their potential to contribute meaningfully to my academic development, both within my major and beyond. By pursuing a 15.0-unit course load, I will not only maintain steady progress toward my degree but also cultivate broader knowledge and essential soft skills that are increasingly important in today’s globalized society.
By implementing this academic plan, I am confident in my ability to thrive during my exchange at ISCTE. I am certain that this experience will not only advance my academic growth but also enhance my professional development by broadening my perspectives and strengthening my skills.
