Petition Letter
Hello there,
My name is Prachi Patel, a 4th-year Life Sciences student specializing in the cancer research subplan. It is my strongest desire to be able to pursue the certificate in Disability and Physical Activity (DIPA) and be able to apply myself to aiding individuals with their health of daily living. While immersing myself in a cancer clinic and doing cancer research, I have seen how much of an impact cancer has on an individual's life— it is disabling and significantly impacts the individual's daily living. I wish to aid a variety of special populations of disabled persons, as I have personally seen and helped my grandfather during his cancer journey before he passed away. To best accomplish this goal, I plan to dedicate myself to a 5th year.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am not able to seek out the opportunity to complete the DIPA certificate. For the DIPA certificate, I am required to take HLTH 332 in the Fall 2025 semester to complete the course requirements of the certificate by the end of my 5th year. I was 1st on the waitlist for HLTH 332, and if I were enrolled in HLTH 332 before the deadline, I planned to drop my other course, RELS 163, and receive a full refund due to financial strain. Due to class size, which is out of my control, I was not enrolled in the course. I wish to petition for enrollment into HLTH 332 and to be able to drop RELS 163 with a full refund for the course, as receiving a portion of the tuition fee for the course would add to my financial hardship. Additionally, I have even taken the initiative to contact the professor of HLTH 332 and the DIPA Coordinator and expressed my situation and my desire to pursue the certificate.
