Petition Letter
Allow me to start by saying that I do not have an extenuating circumstance, however, I am currently enrolled in 4 classes and I need 5 this semester otherwise I will be behind on credits so I am hoping to have a complete course load for this semester.
I recently contacted ASC, and I was informed that I would need to make a formal request to add an additional class by the end of today so I will keep things short. I would like to request a late enrolment into IDIS 199.
Essentially, during the enrolment period I was on the waitlist for another class believing that I would get in, as I was pretty high on the wait list and I had a good amount of days before open enrolment would end. Also last year when I was put on waitlists they were very quick to enrol me so I believed it wouldn’t be an issue.
The reason I didn’t enrol into a backup course was because I observed that for every course I enrolled in, it would increase my tuition cost on SOLUS, and as an international student, it would be a large sum of money that was not prepared ahead of time to be enrolling in 6 different classes. So instead I only signed up for the waitlisted class and paid my sum on SOLUS.
Prior to registering, I looked for more information and asked around about how the waitlist works on the Queens website, but the information was quite vague, so I was under the impression that all students on the final waitlist would automatically be enrolled into the course once the open enrolment period ended.
If my petition were to be denied, my only option would be to take a summer course to make up for lost credit during the academic year. However, this may greatly hinder my ability to successfully fulfil the requirements for my degree, as I am obligated to fly back to Southeast Asia. Along with other impeding factors like family, and duties, the biggest impact on my academic success would be the impact of the timezone on my ability to learn. With an 11/13 hour time difference, an online class/lecture at this time would be highly debilitating to my academic success and health in terms of sleep habits.
At this time I would like to ask you to forgive my negligence surrounding SOLUS and understand my plight. I ask you to grant me this ability to add an extra class for fulfil my 15 credit quota for this semester so that I can be on track to fulfil the requirements for my degree. I would like the fullest chance to achieve academic success and I believe that this is the best way for that.
Thank you.
