Academic Plan
As I stated in my petition letter, I have begun applying to schools abroad in Europe as a guest student or ‘free-mover’. This allows me to apply for direct entry into a school and pay independently for the courses I enroll in. Many universities in Europe offer this. I have also familiarized myself with the Queen’s courses contact hours and credit eligibility to be able to try and best match courses with a Queen’s course.
I plan to take arts/communication classes that I could relate to elective credits for my degree plan, as in total I need 48.0 elective credits. I am currently completing the credits necessary from the Life Sciences List A degree plan. Taking these elective credits abroad allows me to focus on my sciences whilst I am here at Queen’s. It also allows me to indulge in a different form of learning abroad and hopefully getting to immerse myself in the culture through these arts classes. For example, at the CeaCapa program in London, they have an ‘Analyzing & Exploring the City: London’ course, where you are evaluated on your participation and projects about London! It is an amazing way to stay improving my educational skills such as writing and presenting, whilst also learning about the culture and city. Some other classes that I may take include: Strategic Communication and Social Media: Theory and Practice, International Business Marketing, Feminist London: Activism in the City, and Experiencing Globalization: Society, Space & Daily Life in London. This is just one school example, I am also very far along in applying to the Copenhagen Business School where I would take elective credits.
To succeed academically, firstly, I think it is important to understand the education system of the host country early on, as grading, participation, and expectations will differ from Queen’s. Staying organized with a planner or digital calendar will help me stay on top of deadlines, and make use of office hours or tutoring resources. I think it's important to have a strong support network, which I will have by keeping in touch with family and friends at home and by connecting with peers abroad. Secondly, building relationships with my peers through clubs, sports, or volunteer opportunities will enrich my experience beyond the international student circle, and help me feel less homesick.
Once returning to Queen’s in September 2026, I will continue finishing courses necessary for my program which will include one 400 level course and two 300 hundred level courses from Life Sciences List A. As well as remaining elective credits, and if accepted, I will begin the courses for the Certificate of Commerce. I will return with an expanded mindset and a lot of new experiences that I can directly apply to my learning at Queen’s. Beyond academics, the lessons I gain through this experience will shape my future, influencing my decisions, perspectives, and personal growth.
