Petition Letter
Petition to Add POLS 284 After Deadline
To the Petitions Committee
I am writing to respectfully request permission to add POLS 284 beyond the registration deadline. I need to complete this course to meet a prerequisite for my spring graduation and to stay on track for law school the following year.
My petition is being filed because of an unexpected academic situation. I was enrolled in both POLS 284 and a 400-level POLS course at the start of the term. I chose to drop POLS 284 in favour of the senior-level course since, at the time, I thought it would not count toward meeting the prerequisite for POLS 384. Since then, I've received an email from ugpols@queensu.ca that POLS 284 is a prerequisite in and of itself and is essential to my timely graduation. Due to my misinterpretation, I am now in a position where I must request re-enrollment.
I understand that it will take concentration and extra work to catch up in POLS 284. I have already gone over the material and asked my classmates for their notes, and I am ready to dedicate more study time each week. In order to focus on my studies and stay up to date with lectures, readings, and assignments, I have also made plans to work fewer shifts. I am certain that I can succeed in the course and not only catch up with this plan.
I trust the committee will view these events as being outside of my direct control. I will be able to finish my degree requirements and enroll in law school the following year if I am permitted to add POLS 284 now.
I appreciate you taking the time to carefully review my request.
Kind regards,
-Tracy
