Petition Letter
Petition 1.7.1.7: To Request to Take More Than 6.0 units of Courses on a Letter of Permission—Exceptional Academic Opportunity
I am submitting this petition seeking approval for a unique and exceptional academic opportunity to study abroad at Florence University of the Arts (FUA) for Winter 2026. I have already met with my PSYC Academic Advisor, Anja Wilke, to map out my degree planning to accommodate studying abroad for a semester. Anja was very supportive and encouraged me to move forward.
The opportunity to study abroad and immerse myself in a culturally vibrant city such as Florence, Italy, is a rare opportunity. Intercultural learning fascinates me and will allow me to gain insights while also forging a global perspective and network. Having the chance to experience other ways of living and learning as a student will surely enhance my career at Queen’s and beyond.
I am studying psychology and global development studies because I have always been interested in human behaviour and global issues. Having access to courses not available at Queen’s is one thing, but the fact that the curriculum incorporates the student’s own immersion experience as part of the curriculum is a truly unique and exceptional offering.
I understand that exchange participants have a competitive edge with employers who value their global competencies, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. I have no doubt studying at FUA will elevate my personal and professional growth in ways I cannot define as yet.
Your consideration is greatly appreciated, and acceptance would mean the world to me.
Best, Izzy
