Petition Letter – Request to Drop GPYH 215 After the Academic Deadline
Dear Members of the Academic Appeals Committee,
I am writing to request permission to drop GPYH 215 after the academic deadline due to extenuating medical circumstances that have significantly impacted my ability to continue participating in this course.
I have a chronic medical condition, ulcerative colitis, which has been in a severe flare for the past year. This condition causes symptoms including extreme blood loss, malabsorption, fatigue, joint and body pain, and complications involving my liver and kidneys. Despite ongoing medical management and multiple medication changes, my condition has recently deteriorated. I recently failed an immunotherapy treatment and experienced an allergic reaction on Friday, October 24th. I also had severe blood loss this past weekend, which required an emergency hospital visit on Monday, October 27th, where I remained until the morning.
These medical setbacks have placed my body under extreme physical stress and have made it increasingly difficult to maintain daily functioning and academic engagement in this course. While I was initially managing my coursework, the physical demands of GPYH 215, particularly as a field-based course, have now become too great for me to complete safely or effectively. My declining health and ongoing search for medical treatments have left me unable to participate fully in the required fieldwork or meet the expectations of the course.
I had intended to submit my drop request earlier this week, but the recent emergency and recovery period delayed my ability to do so.
Given these circumstances, I respectfully request approval to drop GPYH 215 after the academic deadline. I appreciate your understanding and consideration of my situation.
Sincerely,
Athena Kondos
