Petition Letter
Request for Review of Academic Record
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to request consideration regarding my academic record in light of documented extenuating circumstances that affected my studies during my early terms at Queen’s.
During Fall 2024 and Winter 2025, I experienced significant extenuating circumstances that adversely impacted my academic performance. In April 2025, I submitted academic petition number 13028 for several courses from this period, which was approved.
At the time, I was not aware of the longer-term implications of certain transcript notations, and I am writing to respectfully request additional review in the following areas:
1. Consideration of Credit (CR) standing for CISC 102 (Fall 2024)
Although I completed all course components and earned a B- (2.7), this grade was achieved during the same period of documented extenuating circumstances for which relief was granted in other courses. Since then, my academic performance has improved significantly, with A+ grades in both Summer 2025 and Fall 2025, which I believe more accurately reflects my academic ability. I understand that CR standing is normally reserved for grades of C or lower, but I respectfully request consideration given the broader context and demonstrated recovery.
2. Review of NG notation for MATH 121 (Fall 2024)
This course appears as NG because it is a multi-term course that I did not continue. As MATH 121 is no longer a requirement for Computer Science and I do not intend to complete the course, I would like to ask whether this NG notation can be removed or otherwise resolved.
3. Clarification regarding DR notations on my transcript
I would appreciate guidance on whether DR notations are permanent, or whether any mechanism exists for review or removal when they are associated with approved extenuating circumstances.
For context, my academic record is summarized below:
Fall 2024
CISC 101 – DR
CISC 121 – DR
MATH 121 – NG
CISC 102 – B- (2.7)
Winter 2025
WRIT 125 – DR
Summer 2025
COGS 100 – A+ (4.3)
IDIS 173 – A+ (4.3)
Fall 2025
CISC 101 – DR
CISC 121 – A+ (4.3)
MUSC 114 – A (4.0)
PHIL 111A – A+ (currently showing as NG as it is a continuing multi-term course)
MATH 112 – IN (final exam deferred; current coursework average 88.5%)
My aim is to ensure that my academic record accurately reflects both the impact of the extenuating circumstances and my subsequent academic recovery. I would be grateful for your consideration of these requests.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Kubair
