Petition Letter
Hello, I am requesting a petition to waive this DEVS221 course taught by Prof. Ian Fanning in the Fall 2025 term. I had experienced extenuating circumstances that had impacted my ability to complete my school work and excel in this course. I had a broken foot from June that hindered my ability to walk for the 3 months(Sept-Nov) of school, missed classes due to appointments, complicated surgical removal of hardware that caused an infection, leading to further health complications. As well as since I had broken my foot in the summer, I had lost my job and was unable to have a stable source of income for my schooling, leading to in-school prioritizing picking up any shifts to pay for my schooling while recovering.
I am a student athlete, so trying to keep up with attending all athletic events while being unable to play was a large mental challenge. I was battling a lot mentally, trying to show up for myself when I was being demanded of in many aspects athletically with minimal progress. I have struggled with my mental health significantly this semester, just trying to get through the fall semester. I lost my friends through sport, support, a way of mental relaxation and regulation, and overall health.
These situations severely impacted my mental and physical health. It had created a large barrier to be consistent academically, maintain athletic support, and producing financial support.
I am in recovery and making efforts to regain all my systems. Through rehabilitation support, mental health support, participating in practices and meeting with an academic advisor every Thursday to catch my grades up. This experience and period in my life were my lowest and most vulnerable. This was a very poor judgment of character, as I am typically a very organized and resilient person. I am making progress to prove I have gotten better and am holding myself to much more accountability. I am so incredibly embarrassed and sorry.
I have many doctors' notes, appointments and proof. I can get receipts for my therapist appointments.
I hope this is something that can be put into consideration. Thank you so much.
