Dear Dr. Naaman,
I am writing this Petition Letter in hopes to be granted the opportunity to enroll in ANAT 100 section 5618 even though it is past the add/drop date. I’d previously taken the course online during the 2023 Summer term and followed it up by taking ANAT 215 in the 2023 Fall term. I had done horribly in ANAT 100 and now being in my fourth year I am looking for ways to improve my GPA for further education after graduation. I was on the fence about retaking ANAT 100 but finally decided to retake it on Thursday January 15th and decided to enroll in the class however, SOLUS wouldn’t let me. I then emailed the Arts and Science Student Services who directed me to the BHSC email since ANAT 100 is a Health Sciences course and they directed me to Dr. Leslie MacKenzie as I’d need his permission to retake the course. I emailed him early Friday afternoon and he granted me permission to retake the course on Tuesday January 20th in the afternoon which is past the add/drop date so I was unable to enroll in the course even though I had his support. My being able to take the course hinged on him giving me permission to do so and that left me at the mercy of how long it would take him to respond (screenshots of all emails will be included). Of course I didn’t expect an immediate response as he is likely bombarded with many emails daily and would understandably take time to respond to my email, but I was stuck until I got his response which just so happened to be after the add/drop deadline had passed. Therefore, the circumstances prohibiting me from enrolling in the course before the deadline was out of my control. While I could have and likely should have made my decision sooner, I wanted to ensure I was confident in my decision as taking a course isn’t free and each one comes with a hefty cost. So, I kept weighing the pros and cons of retaking this course or doing a new one where I would learn new information to broaden my horizons with the financial aspect at the forefront of my mind. While I should have made up my mind sooner, I still did before the deadline and after making my decision whether I could enroll in the course or not was out of my control therefore I hope to be granted the opportunity to enroll in ANAT 100 section 5618 this term.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best,
Jasmin Gill
