Petition Letter
Dear Petitions Committee,
I am writing to respectfully request permission to add one additional course to my Winter term course load following the add deadline.
Earlier this term, my account was restricted due to a part-time study status. This restriction was lifted on the final day of the add/drop period; however, I was unaware in advance that approval would be granted, as it was approaching the deadline & I was told it was unlikely. By the time I received and was able to review confirmation of the change, after work and classes, it was late in the evening, leaving less than an hour to enroll. As a result, I had limited opportunity to prepare or register for additional courses and was only able to enroll in one course, despite my intention to carry a fuller course load. Since then, I have taken time to carefully reassess my academic plan. I have attended multiple academic advising sessions and will provide documentation of these meetings. I have also been referred for a full academic advising appointment, which I will be following up on to formally map out my course plan for the upcoming academic year. Over the past academic period, I have navigated and overcome personal and financial challenges, and I am now in a more stable position to fully engage with my coursework and academic planning. In addition, I have reviewed course prerequisites and scheduling constraints and have reached out to the instructors for the courses listed below to confirm feasibility at this point in the term. I will follow up with documentation of instructor approval should enrollment be permitted.
While I am listing HIST 207, ENIN 204, and EMPR 260 in this request, my intention is to add only one course, with HIST 207 as my primary preference. The additional courses are included solely as alternatives should enrollment in HIST 207 not be possible. I would also like to note that my transcript currently reflects nine units from Summer 2025 that are pending grade changes. These courses have been completed, and the grade changes are currently awaiting administrative processing. I wanted to clarify this to ensure that my academic progress and eligibility are accurately represented while this update is finalized.
Being permitted to add one additional elective this term would allow me to better distribute my remaining degree requirements over future semesters and plan more effectively toward graduation. I am fully aware of the responsibilities associated with adding a course at this stage and I am prepared to put in the necessary work to catch up on any missed material.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I appreciate your review of my request.
Sincerely,
Binyat Akrem
