Petition Letter
To the Registrar of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences,
I began first year at Queen's University in September of 2025. Unfortunately, I have been dealing with debilitating mental health struggles throughout the school year. I did not adjust well to the change of environment. As a result, I was unable to complete mandatory coursework or study accordingly, specifically for FILM 113 in the fall semester.
During this same period, I was also dealing with personal and family circumstances, including my parents’ separation and the passing of my grandfather. This affected my emotional well-being further and made it more difficult for me to keep focus. As the semester progressed, I began to disconnect from my coursework and found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the expectations of my classes.
I found it very difficult to focus during lectures, complete course material, and engage with the class to the level I normally would have. As a result of this, I was unable to complete mandatory coursework and was not able to perform to the standard I know I'm capable of.
During and after the time of this class, I took steps to address these challenges and supporting documentation has been provided to outline the circumstances I've described above and its impact on me.
