Petition Letter
I am writing to request a late drop from PSYC 241 due to extenuating circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance during the Winter 2026 term.
During the weeks leading up to my midterm, I was struggling with mental health challenges that were beyond my control. This was a difficult period for me, and it affected my ability to focus, stay motivated, and keep up with the course in the way I normally would. By the time of the midterm, I was not in a state where I could properly prepare or perform to my usual standard.
I did try to take steps to manage the situation. I reached out to Queen’s Student Wellness Services and began receiving counselling during this time. I also submitted a request to have my midterm rescheduled in an effort to give myself a better chance to succeed. Despite these efforts, I was still not fully recovered, and this was reflected in my midterm performance.
The impact of these circumstances was concentrated around the midterm period, but it also affected my ability to prepare in the weeks leading up to it. Since then, I have continued working on improving my mental health and getting back to a more stable place academically and personally.
I take my academics seriously, and it is frustrating to know that my performance in this course does not reflect my actual abilities or effort. Given these circumstances, I am requesting a late drop from PSYC 241. This course is not required for my degree, as I plan to discontinue my Psychology minor, and I believe a late drop is the most appropriate outcome given the situation.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Neale
