Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to petition to late course drop Math 280 which I took in the Fall term of 2025.
During the year I had a decent grade in the course and everything was going well, and all I had left was the final exam and I would have passed the course.
However, during the exam period I experienced a significant personal hardship. My family had to make the difficult decision to put down my childhood dog after we learned he had cancer. I even remember the day this occurred on December 15, during final exam season
Although I had known his condition was serious, the timing and reality of the situation affected me far more than I anticipated.
This was not a good time for me and in combination with my mental health, I was heavily distraught, and many of my grades went down significantly from where they were before exams, and unfortunately the exam for MATH 280 was worth 50% of the grade.
This resulted in me doing absolutely horribly on the exam, and hence I did not pass the course.
Luckily I had A's in the rest of my courses before their exams so it was not possible to fail them.
I have now come to terms with it and finally can even think of writing this petition as I did not really want to think of what happened 4 months ago.
Currently now I have all passing grades and have done well on my exams so far and feel prepared for the ones I will take in this upcoming week, so this is not an issue for any of my upcoming courses.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jordan Yates
