Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am writing to petition for the opportunity to rewrite my PHGY 216 final examination on the basis of an unusual academic event beyond my control that directly and severely affected my academic performance.
My PHGY 216 final exam was scheduled for 11:40 AM EDT with a duration of 180 minutes. Due to technical failures on ProctorU's side, I was unable to enter the exam until approximately 2:10 PM, leaving only 48 minutes. An extension had been granted through the Queen's Exam portal, but that additional time was consumed by further ProctorU technical difficulties. When I raised my concern with the final proctor, she logged out and left the session running unproctored. I contacted ITS during the session and the agent even advised me not to bother answering, but could not guarantee a reschedule. With no confirmation, I felt I had no choice but to submit what I could rather than walk away with nothing on record. I completed a 180-minute exam in 39 minutes without properly reading the questions. Dr. Ward declined my request, stating it was a fair attempt and that I had seen the exam. I never intended to retake the same exam and am willing to write a different version under any conditions. The 9 minutes I had remaining shows how little time I spent per question, not that I had time to spare. I did not perform well on my midterm and worked hard preparing for this final to improve. I am only asking for the fair chance I did not receive for reasons outside my control.
