Petition Letter
I am writing to respectfully request a late drop for MATH 121, which I took during the 2024–2025 academic year.
The basis of my petition is extenuating medical circumstances beyond my control that directly affected my academic performance during the Winter 2025 term. During the final examination period, I experienced significant mental health difficulties. At that time, I submitted an Academic Consideration request because my condition made it difficult for me to continue my academic responsibilities as normal. Due to the seriousness of my condition, I returned to China to receive treatment and recovery support.
As a result of these circumstances, I was unable to participate in the Winter final examination as scheduled. In addition, because my recovery process and return to Canada were delayed, I was also unable to complete the deferred or final course requirements afterward. These circumstances directly prevented me from successfully completing MATH 121.
The impact of this situation was limited to a period in which my mental health condition significantly disrupted my ability to study, prepare for examinations, and remain academically engaged. At that time, my priority had to be my treatment and recovery. I understand the importance of meeting academic obligations, and I regret that I was unable to complete the course requirements due to circumstances outside my control.
Since then, I have taken time to recover and adjust my condition. Over the 2025–2026 academic year, I have gradually regained stability and returned to a normal learning state. I am now in a much better position academically and personally, and I am prepared to continue progressing in my studies.
I am requesting a late drop for MATH 121 so that this course does not continue to negatively affect my academic record as a result of a documented medical situation during that term. Receiving a late drop would allow me to retake MATH 121, or complete another equivalent mathematics course, in order to meet the requirements of my Economics minor plan when I am fully able to do so.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I sincerely appreciate your review of my petition.
Sincerely,
Jiabao (Crystal) He
