Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academic,
I am petitioning to drop ENGL 330 (Winter, 2025).
I experienced extenuating circumstances due to mental health illness. The functioning impairment affected me beginning January 24, 2025, and severely affected almost all academic activities in the course. The impairment directly impacted my ability to attend classes regularly, concentrate, meet deadlines, and write tests. Less than a year after the impairment, I consulted a health-care counsellor as Student Wellness Services to deal with my impairment. Compared to the other courses I participated in during that period, this particular course was structured with few assessments that were larger and weighed heavily. My impairment affected my ability to focus and meet deadlines, which affected grading opportunities that were weightier.
Moving forward, I intend to make adjustments to succeed in my studies. I will strive to maintain regular meetings with my on-campus Student Wellness Service counselor. I will discuss with my family doctor for options in dealing with my impairments and maintain consistent appointments with them. I will take a lighter course load.
Sincerely,
Sara
