Petition Letter
I am requesting a Formal Review under Academic Regulation 3.3.7 for MATH 337, Introduction to Operations Research, specifically for the final examination and the computational assignment. I understand that final course grades themselves cannot be formally reviewed, and my request concerns the marking and review of these individual assessments.
My main concern is that the marking and review process for these assessments has not been sufficiently transparent. For the computational assignment, I received a mark of 45/100. However, the returned work did not include comments, mark-ups, or a clear explanation showing how the mark was determined. Without feedback, a rubric, or a grading breakdown, I have not been able to understand which parts of my work were considered incorrect or whether the assigned mark accurately reflects my submitted work.
I also have concerns about the final examination. I do not know my final exam mark or how partial credit was awarded. Since the final examination appears to have had a major effect on my final standing in the course, I believe it is important that the marking be reviewed for consistency and accuracy. My request is not based simply on dissatisfaction with the final course grade, but on the lack of clear information about the assessment of my work.
I made a reasonable attempt to resolve this informally. After receiving the computational assignment mark, I emailed the instructor to ask for feedback and a grade breakdown, including clarification about the grading of the assignment and the calculation of course components. However, I did not receive a response that explained the assessment of my work or resolved my concerns.
Because the informal process did not provide clarification, I am respectfully requesting an independent review of the final examination and the computational assignment. I ask that the review consider the course outline, assessment instructions, any rubrics or marking schemes, and my submitted work. I would also appreciate a clear written explanation of the outcome of the review, including how the relevant marks were determined.
