Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I'm writing this petition letter to request for a late drop for MATH 121A/B.
At the time I initially completed the course, MATH 121 was part of the core courses necessary for first year status computing students. My first attempt completing the six unit course was unsuccessful, as I was experiencing difficulty adjusting to residency. Despite my efforts to retake the course the following summer in hopes of improving academically in the course, I wasn't able to achieve a passing grade. The following fall semester, the course had been removed from the core computing curriculum. This is significant in my specific case because even though the course isn't tied to my direct progression in my undergraduate journey, the grade continues to substantially impact my GPA at a very critical point in my academic career.
I acknnowledge the importance of academic accountability, and am not trying to minimize my own responsibility tied to my success in the course. Rather, I am requesting consideration based on the fact that for the upcoming plan selection, decisions are going to be made based off requirements associated with a pathway that materially changed post-completion of the course. My decision to take MATH 121 was based solely off the fact that it was a core course in my program, and now that it no longer aligns with my academic goals or requirements, I do not intend on retaking the course going forward.
For the past year I've been working on improving my academic standing as I was initially placed on academic probation. Fortunately, after working on repairing my GPA through course re-taking and further dedication to my program, I am no longer under academic probation. Despite that, I am still not fully at the required threshold for automatic acceptance into computing plans. After discussing these circumstances with academic advising throughly, I've been able to devise an academic blueprint to assist me in my studies. Through our thorough conversations, I was advised to pursue an academic petition for a late drop in order to support my continued academic progress.
Given the change in the core curriculum and course requirements, I respectfully ask those reviewing this petition to consider granting me a late drop so that my academic standing improves as the course is no longer mandatory.
