Academic Plan
As mentioned in my petition letter if my petition is approved and I am allowed to enroll at Queens University I plan to change my major from Computing to Economics. This will not only allow me to pursue a degree that I am genuinely interested in as opposed to pursuing a degree that better aligns with my father’s desire to expand our family business in the technology sector. Moreover, the fact that I have previously completed Advanced Placement courses in Micro Economic, Macro Economics, and Calculus AB at Lahore American School will provide me a strong academic foundation to pursue a degree in Economics, as I will be familiar with most concepts being taught in introductory Economics courses in comparison to this year where I studied Computing courses for the first time.
I would also like to highlight that the challenges I faced over the past year have taught me to actively seek help from others around me without any hesitation or shame. I aim to build on this lesson and not only actively engage with my Professors and Academic Advisor on a regular basis but also avail facilities like the Peer Mentor Program and ASUS Peer Tutoring if I struggle with any of my courses during the semester. In the same spirit I also hope to consult with a learning strategist at the Student Academic Success Services right from the start of the semester to ensure that I address any problems that I might face head-on without wasting any time. Furthermore, I also plan to participate in on-campus workshops to learn how to improve my exam prep, writing skills, and general study habits along with improving my time management skills.
Another mistake I made this year was that despite my poor academic performance in the first semester, I didn’t effectively address the issue in a timely manner, which is why it lingered on into my second semester. This realization has taught me the importance of being flexible and always willing to questions my plans and modify them accordingly based on changes in my situation. For instance if I had convinced my father to allow me to change my major after the first semester, I could have potentially performed better in the second semester and avoided being forced to take a leave of absence. Hence, now when I start my studies at Queens I plan to monitor my academic performance more closely and make any adjustments that are required in a timely manner.
I am confident that these changes in my approach towards my degree will enable me to successfully execute this academic plan at Queens and request you to allow me to enroll for courses in Fall 2026 given my decision to switch from a Computing degree to Economics and my familiarity and interest in the field of Economics that is reflected by my high school transcript and AP score reports.
