Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean (Academic),
I am writing to respectfully request a waiver of the petition deadline in relation to my academic petition concerning the following courses: FILM 110B, DRAM 100B, ARTH 226, FILM 236.
I understand the importance of academic deadlines and regret that I was unable to submit my petition within the required timeframe. However, the same documented medical circumstances outlined in my accompanying petition significantly affected my ability to recognize, organize, and complete the petition process earlier.
As supported by my physician’s note, I have been receiving ongoing medical care since July 2022 for a chronic condition that has involved recurring and unpredictable flare-ups over the past several years. These circumstances substantially impacted my academic functioning, emotional well-being, physical health and ability to manage responsibilities consistently. During periods of intensified symptoms, my focus was primarily directed toward managing my health and attempting to maintain my studies, which made it difficult to fully understand the extent of my academic situation or navigate administrative processes in a timely manner.
Additionally, because my treatment and symptom management were ongoing, there was not a single clear moment in which the severity and long-term impact of my circumstances became fully apparent to me. I continued to hope that my condition would stabilize and that I would be able to recover academically without formal petitioning. It was only after continued medical support, testing, and reflection on the cumulative impact of these circumstances that I understood a petition would be necessary.
I respectfully ask the Faculty to consider that the delay in submitting this petition was directly connected to the same extenuating medical circumstances affecting my academic performance. I have acted as promptly as possible now that I am in a better position to advocate for myself and complete this process appropriately, along with submitting my academic petition for all courses affected.
Thank you very much for your time, understanding, and consideration of my request to waive the petition deadline.
Sincerely,
Grace Blakslee
