Petition Letter
I am writing this letter with regards to the course Religion and Sex, RELS 236 in the fall 2015 term. I am registered with Accessibility Services for anxiety and personality disorders. Unfortunately I have struggled unexpectedly these past few months - in the end of September I fell ill. Thanksgiving Weekend I was admitted to the hospital on oxygen and was diagnosed with pneumonia. After a week treatment of anti-biotics, my lungs cleared but my immune system was very weak and I was fighting subsequent viruses most of October and November. In a large part because of my physical illness, my mental health has degraded and I have been struggling with the increased stress of trying to keep up course work while often ill. Due to my hospitalization, I fell behind in my courses and chose to prioritize what energy I did have into completing as much of my degree (English) class work. RELS 236 was a highly interactive class where the majority of classes were discussion based. As such, my marks have fallen and I know I will not be able to showcase my best work in this course. I have spoken many times with both my Academic counselor and Queens Psychiatric counselor and have worked together for a plan to maximize my success next term and continuing forward.
