Petition Letter
Though I have acquired useful knowledge by being part of the Computing Faculty, this is where I made one of my biggest mistake here at Queen's University. Not wanting to sound cliché, however over the past 2 years at this amazing university, I had lost of who I was. I felt the need to prove something to not only myself, but to my peers and family. I also feared the possibility of become an unemployed graduate if I had chosen a major which I had interest in. By choosing to major in Computing was a mistake I regret. I have no talent in this area of expertise, my math skills is my weakest and I naturally cannot think the way my fellow peers in this faculty can. I came to this university as a way to start fresh, something I did not intend on doing was to completely lose my sense of who I am in the process. I became influenced by my new friends and wanting to become accepted, I started to adopt their ways of thinking and behaviour. I am in no way of blaming them of course, however they had an very introverted way of viewing their surround while I, naturally, an extrovert did not share a similar way of thinking forced myself to think and behave the a similar manner suppressing my natural way of thinking. I did not feel happy about anything and was consistently felt this heavy weight on my chest. I did not understand these feelings to I suppressed them and I forced myself to be happy. I forced myself to continue down this path as I was scared of disappointing my family and friends. Although I made a few good friends I did not feel like I belonged anywhere and do not feel like I was part of student body community. All of this was affecting my work academically because I would always be distracted by the thought of disappointment. I thought negatively of myself whenever I try to study because no matter how hard I try, I knew I would still fail and that this whole thing was pointless. It was not until recently with the help of my family and very close friends I was reminded of who I am and what my natural talents are. My family is starting to understand that getting a job is second to one's happiness. I hope with this I will be given another chance to correct my terrible mistake and continue my undergrad with a major I am passionate about and good at. To be able to grow and make good decisions in the future, I must learn from the bad decisions; the failures. It took me 2 years and a getting required to withdraw to force me to see that I was losing myself, but now I am can confidently say that I understand who I am now and will be able to stand firmly by my values and beliefs.
