Petition Letter
To: Associate Dean (Studies)
From: Eric Hentschel
Dear Associate Dean:
I am applying to drop POLS 261 past the academic deadline due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control.
During the term there have been a number of stressful events in my family that have made it very difficult for me to concentrate and complete my assignments. Not only has my father¿¿s mental health deteriorated in a very disruptive and disturbing way, my parents are now divorcing. On top of that, the woman (SH) whom my family has employed since I was born and who is like a second mother to me was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I have missed several classes because I have had to return to Toronto during the term. I have dropped all but two courses and I have not been attending class or doing the assignments in POLS261.
I will not be returning to Queen¿¿s after Christmas because I do not think I can be successful at this time. I intend to take the time off to concentrate on my health and psychological counselling and spend time with SH and help my family.
It is my intention to apply to another school for the Fall and I am concerned that if I receive a failing grade in POLS261 my grades will not meet the minimum cut-off to transfer. I respectfully request that you grant this appeal so I can get a fresh start.
Sincerely,
Eric Hentschel
