Academic Plan
I meet regularly and communicate with my academic advisor, and with the Undergraduate Chair of the Chemistry department, in order to ensure that I am well on my way to fulfilling my degree. The setbacks that I encountered in first year will not prevent me from ultimately succeeding, though my illness has certainly affected the way in which I go about my studies. I am taking one less Chemistry course each semester this year, so that I can ensure I recover fully and do not overwhelm myself. I am working very hard to raise my GPA and am currently on track with my goal of doing so. I am working with Dr. Mombourquette, who is well aware of my situation, and I am completing several of the CHEM 112 labs that I missed last year because of my circumstances. My GPA will rise significantly when I complete this lab portion and get my passing grade in CHEM 112. I am taking a course over the summer to help lighten my course-load and ensure that I will not be falling behind in my requirements. I communicate frequently with my professors and TA's to ensure that I do not fall behind and become overwhelmed. Moreover, I am getting the professional help I need to better manage my anxiety and depression, through counselling and medication. I am giving myself this year as my chance to rebound and strengthen, which is why I am taking more electives than normal, in hopes that by next year I will be in much better shape and position to handle a heavy course load.
